# Limits and quotas

> Reference for Mammoth limits and quotas, including file upload size, row limits, AI limits, schedule intervals, name lengths, API rate limits, and per-plan allowances.

This page lists the limits that apply when you work in Mammoth. Other pages mention a limit where it matters and link here. Some limits are fixed for every workspace. Others are set by your plan.

## Data import

| Limit | Value | Applies to |
| --- | --- | --- |
| File size per uploaded file | 50 MB | Every plan. See [Uploading files](https://docs.mammoth.io/learn/data-sources/file-upload). |
| Files per upload | 1,000 | Uploading files in one go. Files go up in groups of 50, with a 30-second pause between groups. |
| Rows when generating a dataset with AI | 1 to 500 | The **User defined** row count in **Generate with AI**. See [Generate with AI](https://docs.mammoth.io/learn/data-sources/generate-with-ai). |
| PDF pages | 2,000 | PDF extraction. See [PDF extraction](https://docs.mammoth.io/learn/connectors/pdf-extraction). |

The 50 MB limit is the same on every plan. If a file is larger, split it or reduce it before uploading, or [import it from a URL or connector](https://docs.mammoth.io/learn/data-sources/).

Pasting data from the clipboard has no documented row limit. If the browser cannot hand over the pasted content, Mammoth shows "Content too large to paste. Use the file upload option instead." Upload the file instead.

## Transform and AI

| Limit | Value | Applies to |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Rows processed by Generative AI | 50,000 | The first 50,000 rows of the view. |
| Characters per Generative AI answer cell | 300 | A longer answer fails with an excessive data generated error. |
| Context columns for Generative AI | 20 | Selecting more than 20 columns shows "Maximum 20 columns can be selected." |
| Rows in a Generative AI preview | 10 | The **Preview** button. |
| Join result size | 100,000 rows and 5 times the larger input | Mammoth blocks a join whose predicted result is over 100,000 rows and more than 5 times the row count of the larger of the two views. See [Unify](https://docs.mammoth.io/learn/transform/unify). |

Generative AI runs use the external API key your workspace owns, so they do not count against a plan allowance. See [Generative AI](https://docs.mammoth.io/learn/transform/generative-ai/).

## Export and email

| Limit | Value | Applies to |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Rows in an XLSX download | 50,000 | Views over this size show "XLSX download is not available for views over 50,000 rows." Download CSV instead. See [Download options](https://docs.mammoth.io/learn/export-share/download-options). |
| Rows attached to a Messaging email | 100,000 | The combined row count of all attached views. See [Messaging](https://docs.mammoth.io/learn/automations/messaging/). |

## Schedules

The shortest interval you can set depends on your plan's refresh frequency.

| Unit | Choices in the scheduler |
| --- | --- |
| Minutes | 5, 10, and so on up to 55 in steps of 5 |
| Hours | 1 to 23. When your plan's refresh floor is hourly, the minimum is 3. |
| Days | 1 to 6 |
| Weeks | 1 to 3 |
| Months | The 1st to the 31st |
| Years | 1 to 5 |

- Messaging schedules do not offer the minute option.
- Data Consolidation has no schedule. It runs when a file lands in the source folder.
- Your plan sets the shortest interval you can schedule (see the refresh frequency row in [Plan allowances](#plan-allowances)): Free cannot schedule runs, Starter schedules weekly or less often, Team daily or less often, and Pro every 3 hours or less often. No self-serve plan offers an interval of 1 hour. See [Scheduling](https://docs.mammoth.io/learn/automations/scheduling).

## Names and text

| Item | Maximum length |
| --- | --- |
| Project name | 63 characters |
| Workspace name | 63 characters |
| Dataset, view, and column names | 300 characters |
| Folder name | 100 characters |
| Parameter and Snippet names | 100 characters |
| Automation name | 200 characters |
| Automation description | 2,000 characters |

## Dashboards

| Limit | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Context files added to a dashboard | 20 files, 10 MB each |

Dashboard context files accept PDF, Word, text, Markdown, and CSV.

## Trash and activity history

| Limit | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Time an item stays in Trash | 30 days, then Mammoth permanently deletes it. See [Trash and recovery](https://docs.mammoth.io/learn/trash-recovery/). |

## API rate limits

Mammoth limits API requests per minute for each user session, or per IP address for unauthenticated requests.

| Method | Requests per minute |
| --- | --- |
| GET | 600 |
| POST | 300 |
| PATCH | 60 |
| DELETE | 60 |
| Other methods | 600 |

Going over a limit returns a 429 response with "Rate limit exceeded" and a `retry_after` of 60 seconds. See [API errors](https://docs.mammoth.io/build/errors) for handling details.

## Plan allowances

These values come from the current self-serve plans. Enterprise plans and older plans are set by contract, so ask your account team for their values.

| Allowance | Free | Starter | Team | Pro |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Users | 1 | 2 | 5 | 15 |
| Included storage | 10 GB | 10 GB | 10 GB | 10 GB |
| Projects | 3 | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Pipeline versions | 10 | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Published dashboards | 3 | 25 | 100 | Unlimited |
| AI dashboard generations per month | 5 | 25 | 100 | 300 |
| Viewer Q&A questions per month | Not included | Not included | 1,500 | 5,000 |
| Refresh frequency | Manual only | Weekly or longer | Daily or longer | Every 3 hours or longer |
| Messaging schedules | Not included | 3 | Unlimited | Unlimited |

Starter, Team, and Pro can add storage in packs that bring the total to 50 GB, 250 GB, or 1,000 GB.
