Export to elastic search and analyze in Kibana

Mammoth allows you to prepare your data for getting insights. To enable you to get insights mammoth also allows you to export your data to Elasticsearch where you can  visualize it using Kibana.

Exporting data to Elasticsearch

  1. In the dataset view click Export button.
  2. An export dialog appears. Choose Database option.
  3. Select Elasticsearch from the dropdown
  4. After you have provided the following details:
  1. Host - hostname (web url ) pointing to an Elasticsearch deployment
  2. Port
  3. Username
  4. Password
  5. Batch Size -  No. of Rows that get exported in each batch.
  6. HTTP/HTTPS
  7. Index name
  1. Click validate to authenticate the connection
  2. If validation passes you can click Apply button to initiate the data export.
  3. You can track the status of data export in the notification list.

Work you do in Kibana

Verfiying the Index creation

  1. In your Kibana console goto Management > Elasticsearch > Index Management.
  2. Here you can see the index name, status, health, docs count etc

Creating Index pattern

  1. To start visualizing the data you first need to create an index pattern
  2. Goto Management > Kibana > Index Pattern
  3. Click "Create Index Pattern"
  4. After Defining the index pattern and Configuring the settings.
  5. You are ready to visualize the data in Kibana

Creating visualizations in Kibana

  1. Goto Visualize section of the Kibana console
  2. Click plus sign to create a new visualization
  3. You will see lot of visualizations to choose from like:
  4. Basic Charts - Area chart, Vertical and Horizontal Bar charts, Line chart etc
  5. Data  - Tables, Metrics, Gauge etc
  6. Maps - Region and Coordinate Maps
  7. Time series
  8. Once you have created and saved your visualizations you can use them in your dashboards

Adding visualizations to Dashboard

  1. Goto Dashboard section of Kibana console.
  2. Click the plus sign to create a new dashboard
  3. To fill up your Dashboard again the click plus sign.
  4. Choose from the list of Visualizattions the ones you want to put up.
  5. You can  save your dashboard  by clicking Save in the top of the page.
