# Use Mammoth with Claude

> Use Mammoth from Claude Code with the Mammoth CLI and skill, and search Mammoth docs from Claude, Claude Desktop or Claude Code through the docs MCP server.

Yes, you can use Mammoth with Claude, in two ways:

- **Claude Code works on your Mammoth data.** Install the Mammoth CLI and its bundled skill, and Claude Code can find, read and change datasets, views and pipelines in your workspace, asking for confirmation before anything destructive.
- **Any Claude app can look up Mammoth documentation.** Connect the documentation MCP server at `https://docs.mammoth.io/mcp` to Claude on the web, Claude Desktop or Claude Code, and Claude answers Mammoth questions from these docs instead of from memory.

Chat in Claude on the web or in Claude Desktop can read the documentation but can't act on a workspace. A Mammoth MCP server for workspace actions is in development. Until it ships, workspace actions go through the CLI in Claude Code.

## Work on your Mammoth data from Claude Code

Install the CLI. The installer also installs the skill for Claude Code, at `~/.claude/skills/mammoth-cli/`:

```bash
curl -fsSL https://github.com/EdgeMetric/mammothsdk/releases/latest/download/mammoth-install.sh | sh
mammoth skill list      # confirm the skill landed
```

Sign in once, in your own terminal. Claude Code never asks for your API token and never signs in for you:

```bash
mammoth auth login
```

Then ask Claude Code for what you want, for example "list the datasets in my Mammoth workspace" or "add a step to the Orders view that removes duplicate rows". The skill teaches Claude Code how to discover commands, pass input, and confirm changes. Every command declares how risky it is, and Claude Code confirms before running anything destructive.

## Look up Mammoth documentation from Claude

The documentation MCP server answers questions about Mammoth from this site. It needs no Mammoth account and no sign-in, and it can't read or change a workspace. It has three tools:

| Tool | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| `search_docs` | Searches the documentation and returns matching pages with links |
| `get_doc` | Returns one page as Markdown |
| `list_docs` | Lists every page |

### Claude on the web and Claude Desktop

Add the server as a custom connector, with this URL and no sign-in:

```
https://docs.mammoth.io/mcp
```

A connector added to your Claude account is available in both Claude on the web and Claude Desktop. Custom connectors are available on every Claude plan; the Free plan allows one. On Team and Enterprise plans, an organization owner adds the connector for the organization first, and each member then connects it. Anthropic's [guide to custom connectors](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11175166-get-started-with-custom-connectors-using-remote-mcp) has the current steps.

### Claude Code

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http mammoth-docs https://docs.mammoth.io/mcp
```

The server is added for the current project only. Add `--scope user` to use it in every project, or `--scope project` to share it with your team through the project's `.mcp.json`. Run `claude mcp list`, or `/mcp` inside a session, to check that it's connected.

## Other ways to read these docs

Every page has a Markdown version: append `.md` to its URL. [`/llms.txt`](https://docs.mammoth.io/llms.txt) is the index of every page, written for language models, and [`/llms-full.txt`](https://docs.mammoth.io/llms-full.txt) has every page's content in one file. The [docs for machines](https://docs.mammoth.io/agents/#docs-for-machines) section explains these.
